A little about the North Tonawanda Public Library

Chartered in 1893 as a school district library, the North Tonawanda Public Library was initially located in now-demolished Goundry School # 1. A gift of $20,000 in 1904 from philanthropist Andrew Carnegie funded the Library's second home at 240 Goundry St, next door to the school. Crowded conditions in the Carnegie building impelled the opening of the current site on Meadow Drive in 1975. The former Carnegie Library is now an art gallery.

The Library has been reconfigured over the years. Increased space for children, public computers, and staff work areas has made the North Tonawanda Public Library a thoroughly modern 21st century facility.
